FIRE PERSONAL INJURY LAWYERS

SMOKE INHALATION, BURN INJURIES, PERSONAL INJURIES, AND WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIMS
Smoke inhalation, burn injuries, and often death are caused by wildfires like the Camp Fire. Unfortunately, the Camp Fire will likely prove to be the costliest and most devastating fire in the history of California in terms of property damage, personal injuries, and loss of human life. For families that are suffering from these types of life altering events, the folks at Venardi Zurada want to walk with you during this difficult time and guide you to a recovery for your losses and harms.
The California Public Utilities Commission and various fire investigators, including fire investigators retained by our firm, are in the process of investigating PG&E’s involvement in these devastating wild fires. It has been reported that PG&E reported an incident at approximately the same time and in approximately the same location as the initial fire reports. Of special concern will be whether PG&E was negligent in the repair and maintenance of the structure, powerlines, and poles that it placed throughout the area.

PG&E HAS BEEN DOWN THIS ROAD BEFORE

PG&E has been implicated in a number of disasters throughout the state because of its alleged business practices and has been subject to fines, penalties and/or convictions. These disasters go back many years and continue to present date. They include the 2010 San Bruno pipeline explosion that killed eight people and injured many more. PG&E was convicted of six felonies, fined $3 million dollars, and obligated to provide community service. A judge ruled that PG&E was negligent in a 2015 Amador County Fire that killed two people and burned over 70,000 acres. More recently, PG&E has been named as a Defendant in the Santa Rosa fires with the first trial to commence in 2019.

While there has been no determination to date that PG&E caused the Camp Fire, there have been reports that PG&E had an incident near the origin of the Camp Fire.  The report provides:

“On November 8, 2018, at approximately 0615 hours, PG&E experienced an outage on the Caribou-Palermo 115 kV Transmission line in Butte County. In the afternoon of November 8, PG&E observed by aerial patrol damage to a transmission tower on the Caribou-Palermo 115 kV Transmission line, approximately one mile north-east of the town of Pulga, in the area of the Camp Fire. This information is preliminary.”

Time will tell if PG&E’s actions were a contributing cause of the Camp Fire.  The wildfire attorneys at Venardi Zurada LLP are in the process of investigating this matter and monitoring the Public Utilities Commission investigation.
